Hugo Bruce agrees to coach the Libya national team after the Schaefer negotiations failed

Xenia Sports – Cairo

The Libyan Football Association’s negotiations with German Winfried Schaefer have faltered after the coach set several conditions for the leadership of Libya’s first football team, and he also informed officials in recent hours of the difficulty of his presence there, due to the security situation in the country.

The Libyan Football Association is looking for a new technical manager to lead the national team to succeed the former coach, Ali Al-Marjini.

The Belgian Hugo Bruce became the closest candidate to train the Libyan national team, as he agreed in principle to accept the mission, and he is scheduled to arrive in Tripoli early next week, to terminate all contractual agreements with him, provided that he takes over the work directly.

And Libyan football officials came close to ending financial negotiations with Hugo Bruce, who welcomed the acceptance of the mission after Winfred Schaefer refused to coach the Libyan national team.

Bruce, the 68-year-old, is the first Belgian coach to win the African Cup of Nations after he succeeded in leading Cameroon to victory over Egypt in 2017 final.

The task of the Libyan team was complicated to reach the African nations 2022, as it became the bottom of the tenth group ranking with 3 points, and its mission became very difficult, as it needs to win its next two matches against Tunisia and Tanzania.
