The UAE Football Association announced the appointment of Dutch coach Bert Van Marwijk as coach of the first team, succeeding Colombian Jorge Luis Pinto.

The UAE federation revealed that it had reached an agreement with Van Marwijk to take charge of the Whites during the next period in the joint Asian qualifiers.

the statement added that the Dutch coach will arrive in the UAE in the coming days to complete formal contracting procedures.

Bert van Marwijk started his coaching career in 1998 by taking over the Dutch “Fortuna Sittard”, before taking over several clubs such as Feyenoord, Borussia Dortmund, and Hamburg.

But the real imprint was with the Dutch national team, which succeeded with him in reaching the 2010 World Cup Final in South Africa before losing to Spain.

Van Marwijk previously coached the Saudi national team, where he led the team to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, but he left his position and did not take over the leadership of the team during the tournament.

The UAE national team ranks fourth in Group G in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, with 6 points, 5 points behind leaders Vietnam.
