Official: Genoa dismiss head coach Shevchenko

Genoa have officially announced that they’ve dismissed head coach Andriy Shevchenko.

The 45-year-old Ukrainian coach oversaw 11 matches in charge of the Rossoblu since his arrival back on November 7. He won one of those games, drawing three and losing the other seven, struggling to improve the club’s fate following the dismissal of previous coach Davide Ballardini.

Genoa thanked Shevchenko and his staff for their hard work, and announced that Under-17 coach Abdoulay Konko will take charge of the squad as the interim coach, until a permanent appointment is made.

Shevchenko previously found success in charge of the Ukrainian national team, overseeing 52 matches in his five years in the job. He guided the team to the Euro 2020 quarter-finals for the first time in their history, and he left the role shortly afterward.

The Ukrainian coach’s last game in charge of Genoa was their 3-1 loss to Milan in the Coppa Italia Round of 16.
