Giroud: ‘I try to be in the right place at the right time!’

Olivier Giroud believes Milan can win the Scudetto after his goal beat Napoli and notes he is a ‘big brother’ to younger players. ‘I try to be in the right place at the right time!’

The game was decided by Giroud, who stuck out a foot to redirect a wayward Davide Calabria effort after a corner.

That goal at the dawn of the second half proved the difference, achieved despite the fact the French striker had a nasty cut to his ankle and eventually went off injured.

“These are three very important points because it was a game against a rival for the Scudetto,” Giroud told DAZN.

“It was not decisive, but still important to get the win. We started very well with a lot of energy and motivation, with the determination to play our football. We were concentrated to the end, so it was a deserved victory.”

Can Milan win the Serie A title this season?

“Of course, that’s why we are here. There are three points separating three teams. I don’t want to talk about the Scudetto specifically, but I hope to win something this year, as we’re also in the Coppa Italia semi-final. We are ambitious and will keep going.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his comeback after six weeks out this evening, coming off the bench only for a few minutes. Who will lead the way now?

“I don’t want to think about these things. My job here is also to be a big brother for the younger players. We’ve got a lot of quality, but need to talk more, so I know the importance of communication on the pitch and try to encourage it.”

Giroud tried to celebrate with his teammates at the final whistle, but could barely walk after a couple of nasty knocks.

“I felt the ankle turn in the second half, but in the first I had that cut… I need stitching up, I think, but it’s ok, I am happy for the goal and for the fans.
