Fiorentina ask fans to avoid racist chants on Vlahovic’s return

Fiorentina have released an official statement asking their fans to avoid racist chants in tomorrow’s Coppa Italia match against Juventus and their ex-striker Dusan Vlahovic.

The 22-year-old joined La Viola’s hatred rivals Juventus in an €80m deal, including add-ons in the winter transfer window. Fiorentina fans unveiled threatening banners outside the Franchi stadium before his transfer to Turin and police patrolled the Serbian striker’s house in Florence during his last days in town at the end of January.

Vlahovic was targeted by Atalanta fans with racist chants during Fiorentina’s 2-1 win in Bergamo in September and the Tuscans don’t want to experience the same at their stadium tomorrow night.

“Fiorentina thank the many fans who will be at the stadium next to the team for the match Fiorentina-Juventus on Wednesday”, an official statement read.

“On this occasion, we ask our fans to support the team with all their passion, heart and extraordinary irony, making your love felt for all the 90 minutes and avoiding racist chants and discrimination that have nothing to do with our culture and history”.
