Eight Arab clubs qualify for the group stage of the African Champions League

Eight Arab teams have qualified for the group stage of the African Champions League, after the 32nd round of matches officially ended today, Wednesday.

The draw for the group stage will be held at the CAF headquarters in Cairo next Friday, January 8, at 2 pm.

The Egyptian clubs Al-Ahly and Zamalek qualified, along with the youth of Belouizdad and Mouloudia of Algeria, Tunisia’s Esperance, Moroccan Wydad Casablanca, and Al-Merrekh and Al-Hilal from Sudan.

Al-Hilal of Sudan qualified for the group stage after their confrontation with Ghanaian Kotoko was canceled after medical examinations confirmed that 7 players from the Ghanaian team were infected with the Coronavirus, and did not have enough numbers to complete the match list so that the match was canceled.

According to the rules in force in the classification of clubs qualified for the group stage, which depend on the results of the team in the last five years, in addition to other criteria set by the Competitions Committee, the first classification will include the clubs, Al-Ahly of Egypt, Wydad of Morocco, Tunisia’s Esperance and Mazembe of Congo.

While Zamalek, South African Sun Downs, Horia Conakry of Guinea, and Vita Club of Congo come in the second classification, while the third level will include the Sudanese club Al Hilal, Petro Atlético of Angola, Mouloudia of Algeria.

While the fourth classification will include the clubs Al Merrikh of Sudan, Toungit of Senegal, JSB Belouizdad of Algeria, and Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa.

There is a great possibility of facing Al-Ahly against Zamalek in the group stage, and there may also be a confrontation between the two poles of Sudanese football, Hilal and Al-Merreikh.
