Al Ittihad win Saudi Classico

Al Ittihad managed to defeat Al Shabab 2-1 tonight in the Saudi Classico in week 23 of the Saudi Professional League. 

Al Ittihad managed to keep pace with Al Shabab on the first position, as they reduced the gap between them to 4 points, following today’s victory.

Al Ittihad’s starting lineup of the game consisted of: (Marcelo Grohe – Muhannad Al-Shanqeeti – Ahmed Hegazi – Ziyad Al-Sahafi – Saud Abdulhamid – Abdulaziz Al-Bishi – Abdulellah Al-Malki – Karim El Ahmadi – Abdulrahman Al-Aboud – Romarinho – Aleksandar Prijović). 

Al Shabab starting lineup of the game consisted of: (Zaid Al-Bawardi – Ahmed Sharahili -Igor Lichnovsky – Fawaz Al-Sqoor – Mohammed Al-Dossari – Alfred N’Diaye – Éver Banega – Cristian Guanca – Sebá – Fábio Martins – Odion Ighalo). 

In the 12th minute, Al Ittihad’s Abdulrahman Al-Aboud scored the opener after an impressive effort from the range. However, Al Shabab’s Seba scored the equalizer two minutes before the end of the first half. 

In the second half, Al Shabab pushed forward to score the winner, but Al Ittihad’s Fahad Al Muwallad managed to clinch the winning goal in the 82nd minute. 

Al Ittihad was awarded a penalty after the referee checked the VAR, and Al Muwallad managed to net it from the spot. 

Following today’s victory, Al Ittihad reached 41 points in the second position while Al Shabab stayed at the top of the table with 45 points.
