Al Ahly’s president comments on the upcoming Cairo Derby

Mahmoud El Khatib, Al Ahly’s President, expressed his appreciation towards all Egyptian referees, while adding that calling for foreign referees to officiate the Cairo derby on April 18 doesn’t belittle the qualities of the Egyptian referees.

Moreover, El Khatib continued that he told Ahmed Megahed, interim President of the Egyptian Football Association, earlier this week that this is not the best timing to allow Egyptian referees to officiate the Cairo derby.

On a similar note, Pitso Mosimane, Al Ahly’s head coach, spoke about Al Ahly’s upcoming against Tanzania’s Simba SC in the final fixture of the CAF Champions League group stage.

In his pre-match press conference, Mosimane talked about the importance of winning Simba SC’s match for our supporters and the team’s ambitions in the competition.

“Tomorrow’s result does not mean anything regarding the qualification, but it means a lot for our supporters.”

“I prefer to play with a full team. Unfortunately, several players are injured and we have to replace them.”

“Coming in second means that we also qualify to the next round. We have to look at it positively. Last season, we were playing to qualify against Al Hilal in the last game and we managed to qualify and win the title.”
