Al Ahly, Al Merrikh lose in CAF Champions League

Al Ahly suffered a 1-0 loss to Tanzania’s Simba on Tuesday at Benjamin Mkapa
Stadium in Matchday 2 of the CAF Champions League group stage.

Simba secured the three points thanks to a goal from their winger, Luís Miquissone, after 31 minutes from the start. Al Ahly suffered their second loss since Pitso Mosimane was appointed as the team’s head coach in October 2020. Al Ahly’s first loss under Mosimane came during the FIFA Club World Cup against Bayern Munich. Also, Al Merrikh lost 4-1 at home to Congo’s Vita Club to make their
situation in the group more complicated.

The Sudanese team opened the score by Elsamani Saadeldin but the visitors bounced back to win the match thanks to two goals from Obed Mayamba Mukokiani while Djuma Shabani and Amede Masasi scored the other two goals.

Vita Club won their first match in the group stage and they are now sharing the second position with Al Ahly, 3 points each. Simba are leading the group with 6 points from two victories while Al Merrikh stay at the bottom of the table with no points.
